The Futura Painted laptop desk that I selected for review was the Largely Leopard pattern – I will admit that selecting the color/pattern was not easy. You can select from the currently available choices or view future color and pattern considerations for what may be available in coming months.

If you like the peace of mind of having a couple laptop desks – the Futura is a good choice. You can leave one in your laptop bag and the other on your desk or favourite workspace in your home or the office.

Changing the Temporary Files Folder

In this tutorial, you will learn how to quickly and effectively change the Temporary Files folder to your choice. You will be provided with a step-by-step guide through which you would easily attain your objective.

There are many benefits in Changing the Temporary Files folder, some of which will be listed here....

Changing the Temporary Files folder …. This really helped me at times. On my computer, I have two hard disks, and Windows was installed on the one with lower space capacity, which contained a very small amount of free space.

Whenever I wanted to installed games or software like those of Adobe, I could not because there were not enough spaces for the temporary files. It was then that the idea of Changing the Temporary Files folder came to my mind.

Changing the Temporary Files folder will benefit the user in various ways. You will definitely have more space on the disk where Windows is installed and also, you might as well notice that your computer operates a bit quicker. These are two benefits that you`ll see when changing the temporary files folder.

Well, now let`s come to the steps to follow to Change the Temporary Files folder.

Changing the Temporary Files folder:-

First if you want to know the actual location of your temporary files folder, run Command Prompt ( Start, Run and type cmd ). Then as the Command Prompt window appears, type SET and a list will appear in which you can see the location of your temporary files folder.

To change the folder for the temporary files, you first should go to the Control Panel. So, go to start, and choose Control Panel from Settings.

PC Technology - Tips and Tricks - Changing Temporary Files folder - picture 1

Then, the System Properties window will appear. There, go to the Advanced tab and click on the Environment Variables button ( at the bottom ).

Tip:-
1. The System Property window can also be accessed by right-clicking on the My Computer icon on the desktop and choosing Properties.

2. It can also be accessed by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard, together with the Pause/Break key.

PC Technology - Tips and Tricks - Changing Temporary Files folder - picture 2

The Environment Variables window will be displayed to you. Now, go to the second list ( at the bottom – it is the System Variables list ). This is where you will do some editing.

Scroll down and you will see 2 variables that concern you, namely TEMP and TMP. There is two different names because some programs cannot understand one. You will have to edit the location of these two variables in order to change the location of the Temporary Files folder.

So, choose one at a time, and click on the edit button.

PC Technology - Tips and Tricks - Changing Temporary Files folder - picture 3

As you click on Edit, a new window will be presented to you, namely the Edit System Variable window. There, you have to change the Variable Value to the new location you want the temporary files to be.

You should write the complete location.

PC Technology - Tips and Tricks - Changing Temporary Files folder - picture 4

Then, do the same steps for the other one ( i.e. TMP ).

Note that if only one user is using the computer, you can also change the two temporary files variable ( TEMP and TMP ) at the upper list ( i.e. the user variables ).

Well, this concludes this tutorial on Changing the Temporary Files folder. Hope you benefited on it. If you have not understood something, inform us through comments and emails and we will readily help you if possible.

Apple MacBook Review

Full review of Apple MacBook

For starters, a fair share of the new MacBooks circuitry comes from Nvidia instead of Intel. Most notably the 9400M integrated graphics, which is a big step up from the Intel X3100 found in the white MacBook. Apple claims it has five times the performance over the Intel IGP, but in the real world the difference is actually even more significant - the 9400M lets you to play some recent games whereas the old and tired Intel X3100 certainly does not.
Design

As far as the new design goes, this is arguably the best looking laptop since the Osborne 1. The no-doubt well paid broilers at Apples design department have done an awesome job with the new "unibody" construction, allegedly made from a single piece of aluminum.

To get completely in line with an otherwise minimalistic design, they also decided to let go of the trackpad button altogether, opting for one built into the glass trackpad itself. Thanks to the multi-touch functionality, this works very well - actually theres no need to use the built-in button at all. The new four-finger gestures to bring down Expose and Spaces are also well implemented.
Connectivity

Unfortunately, they didnt bother to drill a lot of holes in that single piece of aluminum. Theres not a single FireWire port to be found, which is bound to feel like a betrayal to many diehard Mac users with a room full of FireWire accessories. On top of that it only has a measly two USB ports and Apples proprietary Mini DisplayPort, so forget about using your external monitor unless you fork over an additional $29 for a standard VGA or DVI adapter, or $99 (!) for the dual-link DVI adapter.

The new MacBook is available in two varieties (so far): one 2.0GHz version (our review sample) and a more expensive 2.4GHz model with a larger hard drive and backlit keyboard. Both models come with the same Nvidia chipset, a LED-backlit screen, and 2 gigs of top-of-the-line 1066MHz DDR3 RAM. Its worth mentioning that the hard drives that ship with the new MacBooks are very well isolated and silent. When the laptop is idle or doing light tasks like web browsing, its almost inaudible.

Performance and Games

Thanks to the DDR3 memory, a 1066MHz front side bus, and the Nvidia chipset, the new MacBooks are faster than older models at the same CPU clock speed. Our 2.0GHz MacBook generated an Xbench score of 166.40. It is also perfectly capable of playing some games - WoW delivered fully playable framerates (50-60 fps) at high settings, which is to be expected from an aging game, but even Call of Duty 4 was playable with the settings tuned down a little. Apple promised five hours of battery life, which we found to be a little too optimistic, but the 4.5 hours we managed to squeeze out of it is still very good.

Overall, the aluminum MacBook is an excellent laptop. Although its somewhat more expensive than we had hoped, you get a solid and great-looking laptop, and some features that youll never find in a similar PC.

The new AIO boasts a variety of performance features, from fast boot up to the latest second generation Intel® Core™ processor family, interactive touchscreen options and advanced video conferencing features.

“We’re seeing more and more business customers embrace all-in-one desktops for their space savings, portability and style benefits,” said Tom Shell, general manager and vice president, Worldwide ThinkCentre Business Unit, Lenovo. “We’ve built the ThinkCentre M71z to go beyond these advantages and give any business that needs it the highest levels of desktop performance.”

Fujitsu M2010

The M2010 is a new netbook to hit the market for Fujitsu, which is their first Atom-based model to date. Looks good and offers a good quality of construction, it is marketed as a "mini laptop" designed for casual users who want a small platform for surfing the Web or check e-mail. In this test, we examine all aspects of the M2010, to help you know if this netbook is right for you.

From the beginning, Fujitsu made a nice netbook. M2010 is a great shiny metallic red paint and off the shiny piano black plastic around the top of the keyboard and screen. I truly believe that Fujitsu has taken a step back and think before they came up with the launch netbook in a saturated market ... and found some interesting ways to make it stand out. Whatever the approach we took, it worked.

Fujitsu M2010
Fujitsu M2010
Build quality is excellent, squeaks and creaks around the frame, and only minor flex large plastic surfaces. Even the screen hinges feel good with good power when the swivel screen and a very smooth action when moving. At the bottom of the notebook, we find the standard "We Fujitsu" in the location of the processor, which limits the amount of heat can be transferred in the legs when used on your lap. This is the norm in Fujitsu laptops Ive ever seen.

Access to internal components is managed by a single panel at the bottom of the laptop, but it only allows you to replace the wireless card and system memory. The hard drive will require further removal of ... something the average user may not want to do. However, it was probably a bad choice, because the memory and storage is the only area of expansion and modernization for netbook users.

Screen and speakers

The glossy screen of the M2010 is very similar, as is the case with many netbook LED-backlit display. The colors are rich and vibrant, with excellent contrast and deep blacks. Maximum levels of brightness have been great to see in bright light conditions of the office, with the right configuration preferred by 50%. Check the angle on average, with the colors start to invest 20 degrees forward or backward. Horizontal viewing angles were much better, extending to the screen bezel and reflection began to obstruct the view of the panel.

Average heart rate compared to a netbook speakers, and below average compared to most laptops. Peak volume levels were fine to listen to a small room, but do not have much power to fill the chamber wall. Bass and midrange were not only higher frequencies to come. Headphones should really enjoy music or movies.

Keyboard and touchpad

The keyboard is the main area that I feel Fujitsu should have spent more time in development. Compared to almost every netbook on the market today, it is one of the smaller keyboard layout that feels very tight. As HP set the trend for one of the best laptop keyboards, manufacturers like ASUS has followed a similar path, expand the keyboard to make it as wide as possible to the chassis. Fujitsu holds a wide edge around the keyboard, much like the glossy red, but does not allow such a large writing surface. Despite the small size of the keyboard feels very good. The support is excellent, with just a hint of flex under heavy pressure to write. Individual key action is smooth, with very little swing key when you try to move top of the key around. Noise is minimal as you type, with a soft large not click when each key is pressed.

M2010 has a Synaptics touchpad with smaller smooth finish. During the tests, it was easy to use, without perceptible delay (a configuration of a few). Initially, we found the touchpad to the coast, after they put their fingers on the surface, he felt very similar to the touchpad lag. We found Synaptics feature called "Momentum" was used, and moving off again on the trackpad feels a lot nicer. The trackpad offers multi-touch features such as flick, pinch, and ChiralRotate, used to rotate the selected object 90 degrees. It is not an option for two finger scroll found. The touchpad buttons are setup button with the swing, which is flexible enough that the two buttons can be pressed simultaneously. Feedback is down is minimal, engaged in a strong shot.

Ports and Features

Port Selection M2010 is average compared to most of the netbook market, three USB ports, VGA, headphone / microphone and SDHC Multi-Card Reader, and the LAN. Fujitsu is also a Kensington lock slot if you feel that you need to securely connect the netbook and unattended.

Review of Dell Mini 9

Full review of Dell Mini 9

Dell was actually quite slow in catching up with the netbook craze, and it took until late last year for the Irish manufacturer to release this model.

The Dell Mini 9 sums up everything you expect from an average netbook; it comes with the standard 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, Intel GMA950 graphics and a choice of a small solid state drive or more roomy hard drive. Moreover you get to choose from either Linux (Ubuntu) or Windows XP Home as the primary operating system.

So, why should you buy the Dell Mini instead of one of the other myriad netbooks out there with the exact same specs? For one thing the starting price is very low, just $249, but that gets you a mere 4GB SSD, so most potential buyers will probably add a few bucks for more storage space. Nonetheless, it is still very affordable.

Another great thing about the Mini 9 is that you can get it in a variety of colors and decorations, although this will also cost you extra as per Dells business model. The standard color is glossy black (and it is very glossy I might add). The screen on the Mini is good, and doesnt have that large frame that many other netbooks have. On the downside, the keyboard feels more cramped than average, but that comes as no surprise on a 9-inch netbook.

Performance and Conclusion

The battery lasted just over 3 hours, which is completely acceptable. For some reason we couldnt get WorldBench to run on the Dell Mini, but the WPrime 32M test finished in 124 seconds.

If you feel like buying a low-end version and upgrade it later (with cheaper parts) you will be happy to learn that its very easy to access the internal components, as they are grouped together beneath a panel next to the battery.

If youre looking for a netbook, the Mini 9 should definitely be taken into consideration - its a solid, highly customizable little laptop available at a very attractive price point.

Edit: Although it would be amazing if the Mini indeed came with a 2.6GHz Atom, it was of course supposed to read 1.6GHz. Thanks Usman for the bump.
